I will have far more information as the dust, the cardboard, and my head continue to settle, but we’ve picture wrapped on my feature film directorial debut, ‘Dave Made A Maze.’
The film is an homage to classic 80’s adventure films with a modern comedic edge and a higher body count. Somewhere in between ‘The Goonies,’ ‘Evil Dead 2, ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ‘Labyrinth’ and ‘Science of Sleep’ lies our film.
Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation. Ignoring his warnings, Dave’s girlfriend Annie leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission. The handmade fantasy world comes to life with puppetry, stop-motion animation, and in-camera optical illusions, re-igniting the tactile sense of wonder from the movies of our childhoods.
The film stars Nick Thune as Dave…
…Scott Krinsky (Chuck) as oddball Leonard…
…and John Hennigan (aka former WWE Superstar John Morrison aka Johnny Nitro aka Johnny Mundo) as The Minotaur:
Plenty more to come as we continue to shape the film in post, but a huge pat on the back to a tireless, dedicated and consummately professional cast and crew, and here are the many ways you can follow The Maze:
